Adventitious Roots

Adventitious roots develop in both flood tolerant and flood intolerant plants. Adventitious roots are the
most common type of root regeneration. These roots begin to develop just above the saturated soil line on the stem of the plant.

Adventitious roots take over the functions of the dying root system. They develop rather quickly to aid the plant in a quick recovery from the anoxic conditions. The purpose of the adventitious root is to help increase the oxygen supply to the plant by growing in aerobic conditions.
