Course: JUST 1160. Introduction to Security
Description: Survey of the security administration field in business, industry, and government: consideration of problems and issues affecting the relationship between publicly funded law enforcement and the private sector.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
We expect students completing this course to be able to:
- have a working knowledge of terminology associated with private security.
- have a basic understanding of the historical importance of private security.
- to identify major areas of the private security field such as risk management, physical controls, procedural controls and various systems involved in security.
- to identify basic objectives of security.
- have an understanding of basic concepts, ethics, techniques, legal doctrine, and procedures used in private security.
- differentiate between the basic requirements of private v. public security.
- be acquainted with the role of security in an organization.
- be introduced to the legal factors which impact on the performance of security functions.
- be aware of security risk analysis.
- be able to discuss changes in the field of security over the next 10 to 20 years.
