OUTCOMES
Course: JUST 1250. Law Enforcement Theory and Practice
Description: Focuses on the theory of law enforcement at the local,
state, and federal levels of government. Police ethics; past, current, and
future changes in law enforcement policies and practices will be discussed.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
We expect students completing this course to be able to:
- understand the history of the
police in the United States and the organization of both police
departments and public and private security.
- appreciate the personal side
of policing, including the following: becoming a police officer, the
police role and police discretion, and the police culture.
- understand police operations,
including both the traditional and current approaches, police in the
community, and police and the law.
- debate critical issues in
policing, including the following: police ethics and deviance, women and
minorities in policing, technology in policing, and specific police
problems and issues.
