Course: JUST 4420. Correctional Management
Description: Application of basic principles of organization and
management to corrections. Discusses evolution of correctional management. Also
addresses correctional policy, procedure, budgeting, and program development
and evaluation.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
We expect students completing this course to be able to:
- understand the relationships
of correctional management and public safety.
- understand the philosophies
of deterrence, incapacitation, retribution, and rehabilitation.
- understand the relationship
between and organization's philosophy, mission statement, policies,
programs, practices, and inmate roles and regulations.
- understand the evolution of
management theory.
- understand the relationship
between sentencing policy and correctional management.
- understand the basic
principles of correctional organization and management.
- understand the importance of
courts and the legislature in correctional management.
- understand the special needs
of offenders.
- understand the role of the private
sector in correctional management.
