Course: JUST 4580. Loss Prevention
Description: Examination of losses suffered by retailers as a result
of manmade and natural security hazards. Includes risk assessment, policies,
and emergency planning.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
We expect students completing this course to be able to:
- develop an understanding and
usage of terminology associated with retail security.
- have a basic understanding
of the evolution of retailing and the crime problems associated with it.
- develop an understanding of
security planning for retailing today.
- be aware of legal aspects of
retail security.
- be able to discuss job
applicant screening and employee training as it relates to retail
security.
- be knowledgeable of
protection measures at the point of sale, shoplifting, internal loss,
burglary and robbery.
- develop an understanding of
risk management.
- be able to discuss special
topics in risk management such as safety, insurance, fire, disasters,
gangs, substance abuse, etc.
