Course: JUST 4630. Victimology
Description: Characteristics of victim/offender interactions; the
effects of criminal acts upon victims and their families; and posttraumatic
stress disorder and its implications for victims and the criminal justice
system are addressed. May be offered with JUST 6630.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
We expect students completing this course to be able to:
- understand the definition
of victimology.
- understand the historical
development of the victim throughout history.
- understand the
victim/offender relationship.
- understand the role of the
victim in the criminal and civil justice systems.
- understand the potential
impact of criminal acts of victims and their families.
- understand victims'
programs, including victim compensation and victim restitution.
- understand what has led to
the current increased role of the victim.
- understand factors that
contribute to the likelihood of victimization.
- know potential victim risk
management and reduction strategies.
- understand post traumatic
stress disorder (PTSD) and its potential impact on the victim and the criminal
justice system.
