OUTCOMES
Course: JUST 4660. Court and Judicial Administration
Description: Historical and contemporary perspectives of the field of
court management at the state and local level. In addition, administrative and
management issues concerning trial courts, the state court system, and the
federal court system will be analyzed. May be offered concurrently with JUST
6660.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
We expect students completing this course to be able to:
- understand how the state
court systems are divided into three areas -civil, criminal, and
administrative.
- understand the structure of
state court systems.
- understand the nature of
the structural reform of state courts in the 1960s and 1970s that led to
unified court systems in many states.
- identify the methods by
which judges are selected and the means for their removal.
- understand the nature of
judicial decision making and how civil and criminal cases are decided
outside the courtroom.
- identify the new directions
in state court reform.
