Course: JUST 4700. Research Methodology
Description: Research theory and methodology in the social sciences
as applicable to justice and public safety; evaluation of research designs;
conceptual models; sampling techniques and procedures. Analysis of research
results. Development of an individual research design. May be offered
concurrently with JUST 6700.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
We expect students completing this course to be able to:

- understand internal and

- understand potential
threats to the internal and external validity of a research design.
- know the methods used to
establish crime rates and rates of victimization.
- know how to develop a

of operationalization and measurement of variables.
- know how to sample a
population for research.
- know the different data
collection strategies.
- know how to design a
questionnaire.
- know the methods used to
collect data through field research.
- understand the concept of
evaluation research.
- know the difference between
evaluation and causality.
