Course: JUST 4813. Computer Applications in Law
Description: Introduction to software commonly used in law offices,
including spreadsheets, databases, and case management software, and review of
word processing applications. Includes instruction in use of Internet and
computer assisted legal research. Enrollment limited to 30.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
We expect students completing this course to be able to:
- describe and explain, using
computer terminology, the basic operation of the computer and familiarity
with its general use in the law office.
- demonstrate proficiency in
the use of a personal computer for creating legal documents.
- demonstrate proficiency in
using the Internet for research.
- apply computer technology in
litigation support and case management through the use of timekeeping and
billing software.
- apply computer technology to
litigation through the use of docket or litigation support software
including spreadsheets.
- utilize other forms of legal
office technology including telecommunications and reproductive systems
including the Internet and the use of scanners.
- perform research tasks
through computer assisted legal research (CALR) databases, including Lexis
and Westlaw.
