Elementary Statistics (9th ed.)
by Mario Triola
published by Addison Wesley, 2004.
Course Description
MATH 2670 is a course in basic probability and statistics. It satisfies
the School of Sciences statistics requirement. It may be taken by students
in other majors. Most Biology students will take MATH 2680 (Inferential
Statistics) instead; those students should talk with their advisor about
whether to take MATH 2670 or MATH 2680. Students cannot receive credit for
both MATH 2670 and MATH 2680. MATH 2670 does not satisfy the
AUM core mathematics requirement for
students who started college in Fall 1998 or later; for earlier students,
it does.
Prerequisite is MATH 1100 or MATH 1120.
Outline of Topics

- Chapter 5: Normal Probability Distributions.
- Chapter 3: Probability.
- Chapter 4: Probability Distributions.
- Chapter 6: Estimates and Sample Sizes.

Web-posted Material
I will try to post a brief summary of lectures and homework
assignments for
each class meeting linked off my home page at
sciences.aum.edu/mh/faculty/nanney/
I might get
behind on this at times, but I will endeavor to keep it up to date.
Grades
There will be a short test (quiz) every two weeks
on
approximately the previous two weeks work.
| Grade Scale |
| 90 - 100 | A |
| 80 - 89 | B |
| 60 - 79 | C |
| 50 - 59 | D |
| 0 - 49 | F |
The quizes count 2/3 of your grade. One missed
quiz is made up automatically: You
receive the same grade on the missed quiz as you got on the final exam. Do
not miss more than one of these quizes.
The final exam (comprehensive) counts 1/3 of your
grade.
Honesty
Please read the section in the AUM catalog and the AUMANAC
concerning academic honesty.

in
the hall. Food and tobacco use are forbidden in the classroom.
If you bring a drink to class, please put the empty bottle or
can in the
trash before you leave.
