In 1998, AUM became a network site for the Jason Project. The
Jason Project is a year long, award winning science education program which uses satellite broadcasts, the internet, and scientific investigations to excite and engage students in science and technology. It is currently active in approximately 35 states and involves hundreds of thousands of grade 4 - 9 students and teachers. This year, students will be invited to the AUM campus to view live broadcasts from Alaska and the Polar Regions of the Earth taking students on a fascinating journey of scientific discovery.Visit the Project Jason @ AUM Site Here

For 3 years, AUM has been sponsoring the Alabama Crystal Growing Competition. Each year, hundreds of 5th and 6th grade students from around the state grow crystals of Alum, under teacher supervision, and submit these for judging. For more information, including an electronic entry form for obtaining growing instructions and contest rules, and
FAQ's, please visit the Alabama Crystal Growing Competition web page.

A federally funded activity,
Project L.A.B.S.S. aimed at developing experiments and other modifications in order to include students with disablities in chemistry laboratory experiences. The L.A.B.S.S. project concluded in the Fall of 1997, but the ideas, experiments, and modification practices developed as part of the project are still very much utilized in the department. Project L.A.B.S.S. gained national and international recognition through many publications and presentations by the project developers and staff.
