For More Information...
This year, JASON scientists will study ocean
and space research through
the eyes of modern-day explorers. In the past, people have been limited
to very short visits in these extreme environments. We will visit the
Aquarius Underwater Laboratory in the Florida Keys and study NASA's
International Space Station. With modern technology, these two sites will
enable humans to go beyond their physical limitations to explore these
unknown worlds despite their extreme environments.
This year we will be offering students and
teachers the opportunity to
participate in other activities. These include:
Teacher Training
Sessions:
  Participating teachers will receive the
multi-disciplinary JASON
curriculum containing classroom activities that are fun and educational.
Teachers will learn how easily the JASON activities complement their
regular classroom curriculum. They will also learn how to access the
JASON Internet activities.
Poster Contest:
Students who participate in the JASON program
can design a poster on any
topic related to life in space or in the ocean. The best posters will be
displayed at AUM and prizes will be awarded.
The Montgomery Zoo
will present their "Vanishing Coral Reefs"
presentation
at AUM which will be made between the live JASON broadcasts during the
week of March 6-10. These presentations will be offered only once a day
on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Guest Speaker:
Astronaut Dr. Larry Delucas will speak on
Monday, March
6. Seating is limited to about 250. First preference will be given to
schools who have previously been involved with JASON, and who have under
50 students.
Last year some 1,500 students, teachers and parents visited AUM and
participated in the JASON X broadcast: Rainforests: A Wet and Wild
Adventure. Like last year, JASON XI has been funded through the AUM
community outreach program. The success of this program has been due
largely to the support of Senator Larry Dixon.
